Malati,
highly qualified academically from Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya,
Faculty of Fine Arts, Mumbai University and trained under eminent
Gurus, has for her research field work visited over 170 temples
of Murugan in Tamilnadu, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Mauritius. For
Purulia Chhau, Vaghya Murali Jagran (ritual Bharatanatyam drama
from Maharashtra) she has visited temples in West Bengal and
Khandoba temples and Chennai. Besides meeting and interviewing
leading dance Gurus and Scholars of these art forms, she has
been to remote folk and tribal regions of Maharashtra and Gujarat
for folk adivasi art forms and interviewing the artistes.
Recognized as Guide for Ph.D students in dance for Mumbai University,
Expert on the Doctoral Committee for Ph.D. students, Bharathidasan University,
Tamilnadu, she is Member, Research Adviser’s Committee, India’s
National Theatre Research Centre for Performing Folk Arts, Mumbai.
