As a Director of Nritya Academy, Ahmedabad since 1960 teaching Bharatanatyam, Elakshi Thakore has given guidance to about 12000 students to complete their course.
Her major contribution to Bharatnatyam is adopting poems from Gujarat literature in Bharatnatyam dance form and having composed a full Bharatanatyam Margam in Gujarati.
She has been Guest Lecturer in Indian Classical Dances at several Gujarat Educational Colleges and Institutions, which include H.K. College, S.V. Arts and Science College, St. Xavier’s College, Sir L A Shah Law College, Ahmedabad and J.J. College of Science & C.B. Patel Arts Institution, Nadiad.
M S University, Baroda, University of Vallabhavidyanagar, Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva and Bruhad Gujarat Sangeet Samiti have appointed her as an Examiner.
She has been an Executive Committee Member, Sangeet Nritya Natya Academy, Gujarat Government and Adjudicator Gujarat University Festival Competition of Folk Dances, Folk Music, Light Music, Dramatics etc.
Elakshi has been doing research work on tribal dances of Gujarat.
She has conducted master training classes in dancing and lecture demonstrations in several institutions in Sri Lanka, East Africa and USA/
